What is SAT?
The SAT Exam is a globally recognized assessment test that is popular among students who wish to pursue undergraduate courses abroad. Administered by the College Board, it was originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, then the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT I: Reasoning Test, and now simply the SAT.
The SAT assesses test-takers’ abilities to analyze and solve problems, which are skills typically learned in school and required in college. It is a written, paper-pencil test that evaluates language and mathematical reasoning skills. The US, UK, and Canada give weightage to the SAT score, and it is a requirement for enrollment in universities and higher education institutions.
For aspiring undergraduates, especially in the US and Canada, the SAT serves as an entrance test. The universities that you apply to consider your SAT scores in admission and scholarship decisions. Therefore, scoring well on the SAT can be an essential factor in shaping your academic future.
SAT Syllabus
SN | SAT Exam Format |
1 | EBRW Section – Evidence-based reading and writing a) Reading b) Writing |
2 | SAT Mathematics section |
Most of the questions are multiple choice, though some of the math questions ask you to write in the answer rather than select it.
On all questions, there’s no penalty for guessing: if you’re not sure of the answer, it’s better to guess than leave the response blank.
The SAT takes three hours and consists of three tests: (1) the Reading Test, (2) the Writing and Language Test, and (3) the Math Test. Compared to the ACT®, the SAT provides 43% more time per question:

Writing and Language | 35 | 44 |

The total SAT score that candidates receive is the sum of their scores in reading, writing, and math. However, the essay section score is calculated separately. They then convert these raw scores to a scaled score ranging from 200 to 800.BEST SAT SCORES | READING AND WRITING: 670 – 800 MATH: 690 – 800 |
